UTAH: STATE LIMITS NONCOMPETE AGREEMENTS

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert signed into law the Post-Employment Restrictions Act, which limits the duration of post-employment noncompete agreements between employers and employees to a maximum of one year from the worker's date of separation. Any accord containing a restriction exceeding the act's one-year limitation will be deemed void. The law took effect on May 10 and applies to all arrangements entered into on or after that date.

TEXAS: AUSTIN PASSES 'BAN THE BOX'

The Austin City Council passed the Fair Chance Hiring Ordinance, which will prohibit most employers from asking questions about or considering an individual's criminal history until after making a conditional offer of employment.
