A US public university has suspended a requirement that all students take a mathematics course, striking at the heart of a debate in the country about whether the subject should be a mandatory part of general education. Administrators at Wayne State University in Detroit say that they will allow individual departments to develop their own requirements on maths, Inside Higher Ed reported.
