Responding to the Pope's message of care for creation, NCEA ventured to Holy Family Catholic School in Dale City, Virginia, to celebrate Earth Day 2016 with Mass and various indoor and outdoor activities.

Throughout the school, each grade level had their own unique project to support Earth Day. From NCEA staff reading books that incorporated Earth Day with National Poetry Month to participating in planting and educational activities throughout school grounds, everyone played a helping role in making the school a more "green" environment. Activities included students:

* Constructing pinecone bird feeders

* Planting four avocado trees named Wendall, Seera, Guacky and Seedlercado

* Creating an Earth Day mural, which represented how many water bottles their new water filter has saved

* Planting a cherry blossom tree

* Removing debris, weeds and stumps from school property

* Planting flower beds

* Rotating between stations in the gym
