The Health Occupations Education Division focuses on the preparation of health care providers for current and future needs. Career training areas include dental assisting, dental hygiene, medical assisting, medical technician, nursing, veterinary assistants and surgical technicians. Programs range from short-term to four-year college programs and from middle-school through adult programs for second careers. Members of the organization serve as instructors, administrators, teacher-educators and program supervisors.

Divisional Goals Relate to ACTE Strategic Plan


* Build professional opportunities for members through integrative curriculum, quality programs, continuing education, resource availability, and inter-membership communication of best practices.

* Provide member benefits through online resources on HOE issues and convention highlights.

* Assure currency of information regarding trends affecting individual and broad program areas.

* Increase alliances with health-related organizations as well as continuing HOSA partnership.

* Promote increased member benefit through joint sessions of Health Occupation Curriculum and Research Conference with ACTE Convention.


The 2002 National Curriculum & Research conference for Health Occupations was held in Houston, Texas. The planning has begun for the next Curriculum Conference to be held in Chicago in 2004. This event is a premier resource for Health Occupations teachers to gain educational support specific to Health Occupations. It is a cooperative effort of the HOE Division of ACTE and the Curriculum Consortium.

The Catherine B. Junge scholarship is available to HOSA students. The criteria are available through HOSA. To assure that all students in Health Occupations Education programs have encouragement toward excellence, a second scholarship with similar criteria was approved by the membership. …
