Nickelodeon's New Show Blends Sports, Stunts

FROM THE FLASHING LIGHTS of a giant TV to the colorful jerseys of competing teams, the vibrant red-and-blue aesthetic of Nickelodeon's "Crashletes" merges the adrenaline of a sporting event with popculture imagery and the antics of wannabe athletes who aren't afraid to fail. Creator Rob Dyrdek and executive producer Shane Nickerson are behind the blooper clip series, which premiered July 5 on NickToons.

Dyrdek entered the world of TV series via his MTV hit "Rob & Big? a three-season reality show about the lives of Dyrdek, a pro skateboarder, and his best friend and bodyguard, Christopher "Big Black" Boykin. After his next creation, the Nick skateboarding cartoon "Wild Grinders? Dyrdek began experimenting with curated clip shows in the manner of "America's Funniest Home Videos." Working with Nickerson, he honed the format for MTV's long-running "Ridiculousness? which curates clips from the internet. …
