National Conference Offers the Best of Investigative Journalism

Come to Kansas City and get re-charged when you meet and hear the best in journalism tell how they do great investigative and in-depth stories. Whether you are in print or broadcast, at a small newspaper, a magazine or major network, there will be plenty for you in the more than 60 panels offered over the four-day conference.

Among the 150 presenters will be dozens of long-time veteran investigators and recent Pulitzer Prize, Peabody and IRE Award winners who will share their techniques and experience.

We hope that the optional day (Thursday) won't be optional for you this year as the top journalists in computer-assisted reporting cover the fundamentals and newest skills. We also will have an all-day special track on effective uses of the Internet, called "Finding it on the Web."

On Friday and Saturday, we will include panels on probing federal and state government, large corporations, covering the major issues of the year, how to do investigations on specialized topics, how to report on international issues that affect your hometown, and how to write and edit the investigative story. As always, we will have back-to-basics fast tracks on beats and the documents and sources that can improve both your daily and long-term reporting. We expect that some of these sessions will be tailored especially to include the concerns of Midwestern reporters.

For broadcasters, we will have eight panels especially focused on broadcast reporting, and the popular Show and Tell Room will be open for broadcast journalists to bring their videos and get feedback from their colleagues. …
