Celebrating some of the best in Utah print, radio and television news, the Society of Professional Journalists' Utah Headliner's Chapter held its annual awards banquet Saturday, June 28, 2003, at the Marriott City Center in Salt Lake City.

"With the Olympics and the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping case, 2002 was a big year for Utah journalism," said Utah Headliner's Chapter President Don Meyers. "These awards are a chance to highlight some of the very best work."

This year's banquet was emceed by Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff. The keynote speaker was newly-appointed Salt Lake Tribune editor Nancy Conway, who took over the newspaper after ethical lapses involving reporters who sold information about Elizabeth Smart's abduction to the National Enquirer.

The Utah Headliner's Chapter presented awards for news excellence in 76 categories, including special awards for news coverage of the 2002 Winter Olympics. …
