The other day my boss told me to "stop wasting time." I know I'm not getting as much done as he would like, but I'm trying. Do you have any ideas to help me get more work completed and change my boss's perception of me as a time-waster?

It's always good to feel "on top of the job" and not the other way around.

Here are some of the most common timesaving strategies:

* DON'T GET SO CAUGHT UP in daily routines that there's no time for more important projects. Keep a running to-do list, with a due date noted next to each item.

* TACKLE DIFFICULT TASKS when you feel the most alert. Don't waste your prime time on less demanding activities.

* BE REALISTIC in your planning about how long it will take to complete a particular job. Don't underestimate the time required.

* ASK YOURSELF: IS the time I'm giving to this task really worth it?" Don't give little things more time than they deserve.

* LEARN HOW TO TELL your colleagues and friends that you're too busy to schmooze. …
