RIS Unveils Version 9 Reference Manager Bibliographic Software

Research Information Systems (RIS) has announced the release of a new upgrade to its Reference Manager bibliographic program. Reference Manager version 9 delivers access to reference data on the Internet, eliminates the task of formatting bibliographies, and comes with a complete set of research tools.

According to the company, Reference Manager is the leading bibliographic management software for corporate, government, and academic researchers; librarians; writers; and students who need to find, import, manage, and format reference data for professional journals, grants, dissertations, theses, research papers, and regulatory filings.

"We are pleased to offer our customers easy access to hundreds of diverse information sources with one simple interface," said David Kochalko, president and CEO of Research Information Systems. "We are experiencing an explosion of quality research information on the Internet. With version 9, our customers can now access these Internet libraries, many of which are Z39.50 sites, directly from Reference Manager." Z39.50 is an international standard that defines a protocol for computer-tocomputer information retrieval. The Z39.50 standard is widely used among library and other information providers to make their databases available on the Internet.

With Reference Manager version 9, users can search PubMed or hundreds of Internet libraries and create databases. According to the company, Reference Manager ships with immediate access to 625 databases from over 300 Internet libraries, and users can easily add new sites. These Internet libraries include academic, government, and public library catalogs as well as Web-based subscription services from Ovid Technologies, SilverPlatter, and OCLC, among others. Users can search up to 255 Internet libraries simultaneously and save search queries for frequent use. …
