This book provides a great explanation of why every school psychologist should think about how to help students in their school who are English language learners (ELL), but the book does have some impractical elements given the time constraints of many school psychologists. The impractical includes a set ofworksheets developed by the authors to look at ecological factors for individual students in the RTI process (Chapter 3), which covers 22 pages, and exclusionary factors for individual students in the special education evaluation process (Chapter 6), which covers 25 pages. More helpful information can be seen, for example, in Chapter 2, where the authors note that more than half of the public schools in the United States have at least one ELL student enrolled. They note that while 70%-8o% of ELL students speak Spanish, there are more than 400 other languages spoken in schools. Another thing that is helpful about the book is that, throughout, the authors mention how the use of RTI principles in a school is for all students of various ability levels inclusive of ELL students. The authors describe response to intervention (RTI) in Chapter 3 and provide an extensive resource list for areas of RTI not covered in the chapter. The book covers everything from assessments used in each state to measure English proficiency to factors to consider in making a special education referral for ELL students. …
