UPA Hosts A Night for Palestine: Music for Life

United Palestinian Appeal held an Oct. 2 benefit concert to raise awareness and funds at the Rosslyn Spectrum Theater in Arlington, VA. "A Night for Palestine:?Music for Life" featured Palestinian musician, composer and educator Ramzi Aburedwan and his Arabic-French Dal'ouna Ensemble, a dynamic fusion of Palestinian folk, classical, jazz and world music. Ensemble members include an amazing percussionist, Tareq Rantisi from Palestine, oud player Ziad Ben Youssef from Tunisia, Edwin Buger from Yugoslavia on accordion, and a special guest singer, Moroccan-American Nidal Ibourk.

Renowned composer, violist and buzouk player Aburedwan was born in Bethlehem and grew up in Al' Amari refugee camp in Ramallah. A photograph of 8-year-old Aburedwan throwing a stone at an Israeli tank became an iconic image of the first intifada, and was featured on the cover of the December 1988 issue of the Washington Report. …
