new-york based Distrib Films U.S. has acquired Joachim Lafosse 's "After Love," which played at Directors' Fortnight in Cannes in May, and "The Country Doctor," Thomas Lilti's followup to 2014's "Hippocrates, Diary of a French Doctor."

Sold by Le Pacte, "After Love" stars Berenice Bejo, the Oscar-nominated actress of "The Artist," and helmerturned-actor Cedric Kahn as a married couple with two young daughters who decide to divorce but continue living under the same roof for financial reasons.

Distrib Films U.S., which previously handled Lafosse's "Our Children," is planning a platform release kicking off next May.

"Lafosse is a singular filmmakers and his movies are daring," said François Scippa-Kohn, president of Distrib Films U.S. "This movie, in particular, depicts the downfall of a marriage, which is a universal theme, and it's got this French elegance that should lure audiences and critics in New York and Los Angeles. …
