So many great new big band recordings out there and so little time.....This one stands out amongst the crowd as arranger and leader Mark Taylor lets loose with his third album in the past fifteen years and it is a scorcher!

Mark Taylor grew up in the right environment to wind up as the musician he is. Born to a dad who was one of the most devoted Stan Kenton fans ever, he had the music in his ears from birth. Dad Randy Taylor was asked by Stan himself to manage a Stan Kenton archive, a task he accepted with gratitude. The roar of 18 musicians became a part of Mark's DNA and he wound up contributing a number of charts to the late in the game Stan Kenton bands of the 1970s. After a twenty four year stint as the chief arranger for the world renowned Army Blues Big Band, Taylor retired in 2001 into a continuing career as a jazz educator through arranging clinics, workshops and music publishing. On occasion you might even see Mark invited in December to Blues Alley in Washington D.C. to lead the Capital Bones Big Band in their annual scintillating Stan Kenton Christmas presentation. (This is a roaring occasion no big band loving person should ever miss. I will see you there at a table right in front of the band......)

This new album 'To the Edge' has been in the works for a few years and was just released in August of 2015. The band is primarily made up of the current members of the Army Blues Big Band with a few important ringers selectively chosen by Taylor. …
