If you have not yet heard Philippe Souplet, a French pianist, you have a treat in store. At the core he is a traditional stride pianist, but he has a musical range quite beyond that description because he has the talent and technique to incorporate a modern touch to his traditional style which is exceptionally effective. His playing is elegant, accurate and swinging. There are references to many favorite musicians in his playing like Willie "the Lion" Smith, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Fats Waller, James P.
