Glenn Wilson belongs to the fine lineage of baritone sax players such as Harry Carney, Cecil Payne, Gerry Mulligan, Pepper Adams and Serge Chaloff to list a few. In fact it does not take a Rhodes Scholar to figure out that Pepper Adams is a big influence. Two of Pepper's compositions grace this set. Mr. Wilson is currently on the faculty of the University of Illinois. He has not always lived in the Midwest. He made New York City his home from 1977 to 1991 and Richmond, VA his residence from 1991 to 2001. His association with jazz has been bountiful, including sojourns with Buddy Rich, Lionel Hampton, Mel Lewis, Bill Kirchner and Toshiko Akiyoshi. He is a welltraveled and seasoned jazz player.

His sidemen on this disc all have had either previous associations with the leader or are from the area in Virginia known as the Hampton Roads. John D'earth, trumpeter, has a long history with the leader and the way they interact with each other here makes this fact very obvious. John is currently the director of jazz performance at the University of Virginia. He has been on the road with Buddy Rich, Dave Matthews, Emily Remler. …
