Donald Trump's transition from belligerent campaigner to 45 th President of the United States has the world hooked. There is nothing novel in a new president setting out to be the antithesis of his predecessor - that was why Barack Obama, the 'anti-Bush', got to the White House.

But as Adam Quinn points out, if we are to take any of Trump's pronouncements at face value, his espousal of an America First policy with its implication of the end of the liberal consensus is alarming.
