You'd never know it from the look on her face, but Lindsey Stirling had just absorbed a heavy blow from judge Piers Morgan on America's Got Talent. Ever gracious, she calmly held it together after hearing her performance compared to a "bunch of rats being strangled." This was 2010, and-as you may have guessed-she didn't win the competition. But instead of hiding from the criticism, she accepted it: "I figured out that, yes, they were right. I wasn't quite good enough ... yet," she says in this issue's cover story, and the "yet" made all the difference. She's since gone on to collect over one billion views on her YouTube channel, and is now releasing her third album, Brave Enough.

If a theme of redemption runs through Stirling's story, it certainly drives the feature about violinist Kyung Wha Chung, whose performance career was brought to a halt by a finger injury in 2005. …
