This is the initial recording as a leader for Sam Taylor and a very impressive effort it is. Taylor, a native of Philadelphia became interested in jazz during his attendance and later graduation from the High School for Creative and Performing Arts in his home city. He extended his education in 2001 at the Purchase College State University of New York. There he had several teachers including Ralph Lalama and Jon Faddis. He is accompanied by here by two men who have been his musical partners since 2008. Okamoto is a 40 year veteran on the New York scene. He worked with Hank Jones, Duke Jordan and a host of others. O'Donnell is a native of Ireland. He has worked here in the New York scene since 2008, coming here on a grant from the Scottish Arts Council. A gifted bassist whose background was not originally jazz but Irish folk music. …
