Archdiocese of New York Catholic Schools Office

Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop

Dr. TimothyJ. McNiff, Superintendent

With more than 400 parishes and 2.5 million Catholics in the Archdiocese of New York, it's one of the largest and most diverse in the nation. Holding on to a clear mission to help transform society in light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Archdiocese works to ensure its Catholic schools are Christ-centered and academically excellent. Serving more than 68,000 students in more than 200 Catholic schools across nine counties, The Office of Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of New York trains and supports teachers to embody its mission to "...lead students to be life-long learners and leaders energized by fidelity to Christ, the Church and one another."

Spiritually committed to empower Catholic schools to put their faith in action, The Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese of New York has implemented initiatives such as Pathways to Excellence, the strategic plan for the Archdiocese's Catholic schools to maintain excellent academics. In addition, the Catholic School Advantage initiative is a partnership with the University of Notre Dame to help Catholic schools become proactive by reaching out to Hispanic families and informing Hispanic community leaders of the great value of Catholic education.

In strong support of school sustainability, The Catholic Schools Office introduced regionalization, bringing most parish elementary schools into the regional model of governance. Regionalization allows the schools to benefit from the leadership and oversight of a Regional Boards of Trustees.

Together with pastors and religious clergy, the devoted and experienced lay board members work together to ensure each parish's responsibility to Catholic education while the board identifies and secures new sources of funding.

NCEA gratefully confers the NCEA Elizabeth Ann Seton Award to The Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese of New York for its dedication to Catholic education. …
