Selecting Oscar-winning icon Morgan Freeman as this year's career achievement honoree at the Movies for Grownups Awards was an easy call.

"We really try to look at people who are not getting less active or pulling back, but getting more active professionally as they age," says Meg Grant, AARP The Magazine's West Coast editor and celebrity liaison. "[Freeman] was really struggling until almost his 50s in this business, and look at him - he does three or four movies a year still."

In 2016 alone Freeman appeared in "Ben-Hur," "London Has Fallen," and "Now You See Me 2," and he'll soon be seen in "Going in Style" and "Villa Capri."

"[Freeman] has been a grownup for as long as we've known him," says AARP film critic Bill Newcott. "And every year his performances disrupt the conventional wisdom about aging in Hollywood. …
