Ransomware Adds Up

According to an IBM X-Force study, ransomware made up 40% of all spam emails sent in 2016. Almost half of the business leaders surveyed experienced a ransomware attack in 2016 and 70% of those attacked said their company paid to resolve the situation. Half paid over $10,000 and 20% paid more than $40,000.

Overall, nearly 60% of all executives surveyed said they would be willing to pay a ransom to recover company data, and 25% indicated that, depending on the data type, they would be willing to pay between $20,000 and $50,000 to regain access to their data.
