Amnesty International is calling on the government of Sudan urgently to investigate allegations that Sudanese security forces are persecuting students from the country's troubled Darfur region through arbitrary arrests, detention, torture and murder.

In the report, 'Uninvestigated, Unpunished: Human Rights Violations Against Darfuri Students in Sudan', Amnesty states that at least 10,000 Darfuri students have been arbitrarily arrested or detained since 2003. In 2015 - the last year for which figures are available - security agents arrested 200 students and killed 13 more.

'The suppression of Darfuri students' rights to expression and association - as well as the interruption of their education - cannot be tolerated. The government must fully investigate and bring to account those responsible, as well as ensure effective remedies for victims,' says Muthoni Wanyeki, Amnesty director for East Africa and the Great Lakes region. …
