The Well-Being Promotion Program PROMOTING STUDENT HAPPINESS: Positive Psychology Interventions in Schools By S. M. Suldo 2016, Guilford Press

Review by Jessica b. Bosworth

The title of this book, Promoting Student Happiness: Positive Psychology Interventions in Schools, is a bit misleading. The book mostly revolves around one 10-week group intervention, the WellBeing Promotion Program, created by the author. The different chapters include background information, universal screening measures, supporting data, application with multitiered system of supports (MTSS), as well as alternate ways to adapt the program for individuals or classroom use. Cultural implications are reported, as the research used to create the program is based on Western perceptions of happiness and well-being. Many other positive psychology interventions with outcome data are noted, although implementation information for these interventions is not given. Additional chapters include the effects of positive psychology interventions related to teachers and parents on students' well-being, but no specific program outline is given for the interventions mentioned.

I was hoping to be able to crack open this book and find multiple interventions I could immediately use; however, it mostly reads as a textbook with copious amounts of literature review and data. …
