If you caught Missy Elliot's music videos "Work It" and "Gossip Folks," then you've seen Janay Lampkin throw it down hip-hop style. For "Work It," she auditioned in L.A. with over 100 girls and ended up one of five young dancers featured in the video. Janay has also backed up Elliot in appearances on "Mad TV," "The Jay Leno Show" and ABC's "American Music Awards." About the AMAs Janay says, "I was so excited to perform in front of famous artists whom I look up to so much."

Her talents are not confined to hip hop only. Janay has also studied tap, jazz and ballet for over nine years, and she models for catalogs. "Dancing helps me with modeling," says Janay. "It has taught me stage presence, attitude, how to pose and how to move with balance."

Dream job: acting

With so many new steps to learn, Katie Gallagher understands that Irish dancing takes intense dedication. "Step dancing is like ballet, except it has different shoes and different steps," she says. To prepare for a competition, she takes class in Erie once a week, practices at home for an hour every other day, commutes to Buffalo, NY, on Saturdays and studies with a private tutor occasionally.

Though she prefers dancing a reel, she has excelled with the jig in competition. …
