New study finds chain pharmacy customers happy overall, but there's room for improvement

A new study of consumer perceptions reports that pharmacists are doing an excellent job overall, but it identified some areas that offer opportunities for improvement

The study, Consumers Perceptions of Chain Pharmacists and Chain Pharmacies, was conducted by the Retail Drug Institute at the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences at Long Island University's Brooklyn, N.Y, campus and reflects the opinions of 1,197 adults (791 chain drugstore customers, 207 department store/mass-merchandiser customers, and 181 supermarket customers; 18 participants could not be classified according to type but were included in the overall data).

For all the talk in the industry about more pharmacist involvement in patient care, only 40% of respondents reported that the pharmacist is more available to answer questions than when they started using that store. More than half have seen no change, while 3% said their pharmacist is actually less available. Chain drugstore customers were most likely to say R.Ph.s are more available.
