Bell & Howell Offers New Databases Online
Bell & Howell Information and Learning has announced an agreement with Chadwyck-Healey to distribute its LION and DNSA databases. In a separate announcement the company said it is offering a criminal justice database online.
Bell & Howell has announced that it will distribute publisher Chadwyck-Healey, Inc.'s Literature Online (LION) and Digital National Security Archives (DNSA) on the Internet. The agreement makes Bell & Howell the exclusive provider of LION and DNSA to K-12 institutions and public libraries in North America.
LION is a full-text resource for English and American literature. Comprising more than 260,000 texts from dozens of individual collections, LION provides exhaustive coverage of poetry, drama, and prose from 600 A.D. to the present. Author biographies, full-text literary journals, and editor-selected literary Web sites offer important secondary resources.
LION's original new collections like Faber & Faber, l9th Century English Fiction, and Early American Fiction add important works by T. S. Eliot, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and more. Additional secondary resources content from Literary Journals Index Full Text (LIFT) supplies full-text coverage of literary reviews, criticism, theory, research, and analysis.
The Digital National Security Archive assembles 12 full-image collections spanning more than half a century. DNSA contains 34,000 actual documents-some formerly classified and many unique to DNSA.
Recently, Chadwyck-Healey redesigned the LION databases to feature integrated searching across multiple collections. This enhanced interface allows researchers to quickly search, find, read, and analyze critically important literary works in one step. Bell & Howell recently released an online Web tour of the new LION at http://www. proquest.com/k12/main/k121ion.
