AS A NEWLY ELECTED MEMBER OF THE Executive Council, I have a substantial agenda for positive change. Two of the more important goals are a meaningful improvement in professional development and more efficient governance of the Society.

Many risk managers, myself included, lament the theft of our purview by other professions, such as banking. And we wonder why no one understands what we do, least of all senior management.

When it comes to our careers, many of us appear to be risk averse. But, to expand our image and regain the high ground, we must reinvent our professional selves and live up to our potential. To do this, however, we need a powerful ally Fortunately for us, we find that in RIMS. Much of what I have achieved in my career, I owe to my involvement with the Society.

RIMS is not a static bureaucracy; it is risk managers banded together to accomplish professional objectives we cannot achieve alone. The Society offers endless opportunities for its membership in education, networking and personal development. …
