YOU'D BE AMAZED, OR SHOCKED, AT THE HOURS OF brainstorming that go into creating the deft phrasing that graces our cover, those verbal snares meant to snag your attention. Here's what we're after, our ideal: the day's mail is dropped onto your desk; the distinctive Risk Management masthead peeks out from the pile; a stunning image makes you lean back in your chair, where you scan cover lines so perfectly wrought that they convince you that everything else you have to do that day is secondary to educating yourself about those issues. After all, you can't be effective at your job unless you're up on the latest in hedging the weather, dipping your toes in the capital markets and putting all your risks in one basket . . .

Actually, we'd be satisfied if you take away from each issue a few solid things you can use to protect your company's human and financial assets. There are some exciting new ways to do this, depending on your industry and your company's size, but they can probably speak for themselves without the hype.
