This is the print edition of the well-- known online style guide (http:// www.info.med.yale.edu/caim/manual). Written clearly, but academically, the book presents principles of print design and layout in terms of how they apply to the Web, as well as new guidelines for Web-based materials. There is little about HTML in this book. Rather, it is about effectively presenting material to a worldwide audience through a new media.

The authors are obviously writing from their own experience, as most of the examples are from the academic or educational world-a plus for those seeking to escape from books and design examples that cater to plug-in and multimedia intensive Web sites. This is not to say their examples are boring, but that they focus on effective presentation of material written and designed specifically for Web users seeking academic or educational information. …
