Microsoft Debuts Vizact 2000, Releases Home Publishing Suite 2000

Microsoft Corp. has announced the immediate worldwide availability of Microsoft Vizact 2000, which allows users to add multimedia functionality, such as timing, animation, and interactivity, to their Web documents, turning them into "active documents." Microsoft has also announced the release of Microsoft Home Publishing Suite 2000, the latest version of the company's home desktop publishing software for consumers that, according to the company, combines the best of print publishing, easy-to-use Web functionality, and its photo-editing software, Microsoft Picture It!, in one complete package.

Vizact 2000

According to the announcement, Microsoft Vizact 2000 lets users take advantage of the latest dynamic Web technologies using the familiar Microsoft Office interface.

"As the flow of information becomes increasingly overwhelming, communicators will need to devise new ways to ensure that their messages rise above the noise. Socalled active documents are effective media because they are dynamic, engaging, and memorable," said Chris Shipley, analyst and editor of DemoLetter. "Microsoft recognized this issue early on and has come to market first with a product that's as easy to use as it is exciting and powerful. Vizact 2000 should do very well in the marketplace."

Ernst & Young consultant Peter Novins said: "Ernst & Young's Knowledge and Learning Solutions practice group will be using Vizact 2000 to present information in engaging and innovative ways. In the knowledge management space, we see Vizact enriching the ways in which complex content can be communicated. We are using the application to develop an innovative presentation of our corporate knowledge management solutions."
