Cambridge Scientific Abstracts and Data Trek, Inc. Announce

Article excerpt

Cambridge Scientific Abstracts has announced an agreement with Data Trek, Inc. to significantly expand the accessibility of Cambridge Scientific's 28 magnetic tape databases and to create a new series of diskette products for researchers working in the environmental and medical sciences.

Cambridge Scientific will make its tape databases accessible via Data Trek's GoPAC (Graphical On-Line Public Access Catalog) software. This Windows style software allows customers to import database records into their PC-base networks.

The Cambridge Scientific/Data Trek alliance enables PC network users to take advantage of Cambridge Scientific's magnetic tape product line, giving them the ability to load, search and retrieve information on their computer network locally using GoPaC, or any of Data Trek's text-based software products.

Additionally, Cambridge Scientific and Data Trek will collaborate on a new series of diskette databases focusing on key areas of current research. The first three diskettes will focus on air and water pollution, waste management, and AIDS/tuberculosis research. The database will be available to subscribers this fall.

The diskettes will be published monthly; the only equipment needed to run the databases and software will be a personal computer (286 or higher) and either Windows or MS-DOS.

GoPAC's searching technology provides rapid access to bibliographic records. Its HyperSearch capability complements research, allowing users to complete fast, spontaneous searches from within any retrieved record. …
