Article excerpt

Car Builder is an exciting, creative simulation program from Optimum Resource that lets students design, construct, and test their own cars on screen. Available on a hybrid CD-ROM, this program is one that integrates mathematics concepts, aerodynamics, and design technology in an easy-touse but sophisticated format for all grade levels. Students are actively involved in creative thinking, visual design, and problem solving while going through the steps to design a vehicle.

As design engineers, students can design sedans, four-wheeldrive vehicles, sports cars or hot rods. They can select for aerodynamics, power and racing ability, or fuel efficiency and economy. Students learn what a chassis is and how the type of suspension or the placement of the fuel tank affects a vehicle's performance on the test tracks. The best part is that there is no one right answer in Car Builder. When the students test their vehicles in the wind tunnel or on the road, they can evaluate the results and make modifications to fix their designs. …
