As the curtain falls on yet another year, it's hard not to become introspective when casting a scrutinizing eye on the cumulative accomplishments of the recent past. Here at Stage Directions, we are feeling ever so reflective as we near the end of a milestone-our 15th anniversary! When Stage Directions premiered in July 1988, it was a newsletter targeted at community theaters looking to improve their budget-challenged productions. Although the form, content and presentation have radically changed since those early salad days, Stage Directions' mission has not. We still aim to provide you with the tools necessary to make informed decisions in the daily operations of theater, while enlarging your reserves of practical knowledge of the latest cutting-edge instruments in theater technology. Who would have thought when we began our journey during the Reagan Administration, that not only would we survive (while so many other publications struggled) but flourish to become a potent player in the technical theater realm! Yes, we can pat ourselves on the back for this marvelous trajectory of growth that began with an idea formulated by our founders, the late Susan Wershing and SD's Consulting Editor Stephen Peithman; however, we would not continue to exist without the resolute commitment of our readers.

It's a truism that theater can be performed anywhere-even in the most bizarre sites-be it a bowling alley, an elevator, the back of a taxicab or the hallway of an apartment building. …
