The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, the group that is developing special certifications for teachers, has selected 16 people for the newly established Vocational Education Standards Committee. Ten of them are members of AVA.

The committee is expected to produce a draft set of standards by the year's end. The Board projects that an NBPTS certificate for vocational teachers will be available in the 1997-98 school year.

Committee members are Michael J. Jensen, chair, applied academics teacher at Paonia High School in Colorado; Phyllis A. Herriage, vice chair, associate director of NCRVE at Berkeley; Gary H. Beck, engineering drafting teacher and chair of drafting department at Benson High School in Portland, Oregon; Thomas T. Blanford teaches engineering and modern African culture at Enloe High School in Raleigh, North Carolina; Gertrude M. Brown teaches medical laboratory assistant course at Swenson Skills Center in Philadelphia; Paul F. Cole, secretary-treasurer of the New York State AFL-CIO and a vice president of the American Federation of Teachers; Mary Lee Edwards, home economics and science teacher at Yates Center High School in Kansas; Peter Olesen Lund, industrial technology teacher at Timberlane Regional Middle School in Plaistow, New Hampshire; Richard L. …
