Learned Information, Inc. Acquires Computers in Libraries Ma

Learned Information, Inc. has announced that it acquired the Computers in Libraries magazine as well as the conference and exhibition of the same name from Mecklermedia Corporation of Westport, Connecticut. Learned Information will publish its first issue of the magazine in April of 1995 and will be responsible for the 1996 Computers in Libraries conference and exhibition in Arlington, Virginia.

Learned Information, Inc., based in Medford, New Jersey, is the publisher of Information Today, Link-Up, and Searcher, and is the organizer and sponsor of the National Online Meeting, which takes place in May in New York City. Thomas H. Hogan, president of Learned Information, said, "We are looking forward to adding the Computer in Libraries magazine to our growing list of publications in the fields of library and information science and educational technology. The Computers in Libraries conference and exhibition also fits in very well with our commitment to the library and information technology communities."

The purchase price for the magazine and conference exceeded one million dollars and involved both cash and an assumption of subscription liabilities.

Alan M. Meckler, chairman of Mecklermedia, stated, "We are sad to be leaving the library technology field, but in the past year we have become increasingly consumer and industry oriented as a business. …
