Laser Sight for SIG P226

Article excerpt

crimson Trace Corporation has introduced a LaserGrip laser sight system for one of the most popular 9mm service pistots, the SIG/SAUER P226. The P226 LaserGrip is designed to replace factory grips for a quick and easy installation that takes about five minutes at most.

The LaserGrip consists of left and right-hand grips, with the batteries and activation push-button switch in the lefthand grip. The laser-emitting diode and lens are at the top of the right grip and a short cable that fits in a recess in the backstrap connects the grips. Two CR2032 or DL2032 lithium batteries power the unit. A master on/off switch at the bottom of the grip prevents inadvertent activation when sitting in a car or in other situations where the activation switch may be pushed unintentionally. The P226 LaserGrip is very close to the size and shape of factory grips, eliminating the need for a special holster.

Once the grips are in place and the four screws snug, it's necessary to "sight in" the laser beam to ensure that the point of impact will be where the beam hits the target. You can do this without firing a shot if your iron sights are already correct. For this, it's necessary to use one of the hex wrenches (two are provided in case you lose one). This fits into a recess at the top of the grip (elevation) and another at the right, for windage.

Aim at a flat surface at the distance you want the sight to be set, and adjust the windage and elevation to place the laser dot on top of the front sight at that range. Crimson trace suggests 50 feet as the sighting-in range, but if your preference is farther or closer there is no problem in adjusting. …
