2000 Buyer's Guide and Consultants Directory

Going Back to My Roots

This first year working on the Buyer's Guide has been like a blast from the past. Having spent more than 20 years in the directory publishing business, I've now spent the last 4 years as a freelance desktop publishing/database specialist. During these past few years I have been involved with a software development firm called Pathways Unlimited, Inc., based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Pathways Unlimited has developed a software program especially for producing directories/buyer's guides from relational databases and pre-tagging the data for layout in any number of desktop publishing packages. When Kathy Miller approached me about taking over the production of her Buyer's Guide, I knew that the Pathways Database Publisher was the perfect solution for her directory.

After I converted the basic CIL data into this software package, we began making changes. Not only did we update all the address information, but Kathy and her associates also set about reorganizing the categories of the Buyer's Guide products. Once the questionnaires were printed and sent in the mail, the real work began. I input the new data as responses came in from the vendors and developed the technological tools required to produce the pre-tagged files that the CIL staff needed to publish the magazine.
