RALPH NADER ADDRESSES ADC

Arab-American, former Green Party presidential candidate, and long-time consumer activist Ralph Nader addressed a large audience at the Friday, June 9 dinner of the 18th annual American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, on the topic, "What is ethnic pride?"

Quoting a teacher, he affirmed that it was the "infinity of the universe that makes us all brothers and sisters."

To illustrate his point, Nader cited the contributions of a Brazilian teaching innovator who developed a unique and effective way to reduce literacy; the Bengali program to provide village women with small bank loans to set up businesses; and Hassan Fathy, the Egyptian "people's architect," who taught people how to make decent inexpensive housing from the soil, as examples of diversity and unity in culture and dreams.

Nader then spoke specifically about Arab culture and contributions through the centuries, and how they were being neglected in the U.S. to the point of non-existence.
