That achievement was especially noteworthy because both Exxon and Mobil independently had made commitments to plant 1 million trees with Global ReLeaf before the two companies merged last December. Mobil planted its trees in 1998 and 1999, and Exxon has supported tree planting with AMERICAN FORESTS every year since 1995. Exxon reached its 1 million tree goal this summer, capped by its donation of 300,000 Korean pine to enhance habitat for the Siberian tiger (see "On the Last of 9 Lives, " page 38).

That program allows customers to add one dollar to purchases to plant a tree. Store associates with high performances will receive financial rewards. Eddie Bauer recently celebrated its 3 millionth Global ReLeaf tree wits a commemorative tree planting in Hawaii.
