Putting on a New E-Face

Article excerpt

It's been three and a half years since we launched drugtopics. com-the on-line newsmagazine for pharmacists. Coming from what was then a 140-year-old publication, it was a big deal for us, and many of you have taken the time to visit us.

So far, it's been a great learning experience. One thing we've learned is that on-line stocks may take a tumble now and then, but on-line usage continues to climb. This was borne out by a recent MRI CyberStats report, which showed that 86,289,000 American adults had used the Internet in the previous 30 days at home and at work. Just for comparison, 64,200,000 adults were regularly using the Internet in May 1999.

MediaCross, a marketing consulting firm, recently polled 70 pharmacists and found that 87% have a computer and 93% of those actually use it-and that's just at home!

Our marketing gurus tell us that "hits" may not be the best way to determine on-line traffic, but the latest available data show that drugtopics. com racked up more than 375,000 successful hits for the month of July A better barometer is page views or impressions, which totaled 121,815 for the month, or 3,929 per day

Following a strategy we pursue on the print side, we're not standing pat. …
