The Harare Branch held a very successful three day Winter School during July on the theme of "Achieving excellence through people and productivity" Topics covered:

* management for success

* performance management

* job evaluation - the Castilion system

* use of information technology as a tool for education and development, the ZARNET approach;

* the Institute of Management Services (IMS) position paper on setting up of the Productivity Centre in Zimbabwe.

Speakers included Mrs Wimbai Maiswa of Lorimak, Ngoni Shavi of Art Corporation, Paul Muchirahondo from City of Harare, Mr Kundishora a Consultant, Sam Gura on the IMS Task Force and Chris Bouwer from PTC.

The Harare Branch was very honoured to welcome The Permanent Secretary for Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Mr L C Museka who gave the closing address.

In his speech Mr Museka noted that the Winter School had brought together distinguished delegates from the financial institutions, local authorities, manufacturing and consultancy firms, and key players in the development of the Zimbabwe economy.

He said: "You have shown as an Institute, that you are not biased in your efforts to improve the development needs of the country. This is very commendable indeed and I hope this progressive spirit will continue.

"It is common knowledge that Zimbabwe, in common with many developing countries, is facing a plethora of challenges. The onslaught of globalisation, with the accompanying deregulation of the markets has brought about a myriad of problems. …
