Workshops, conferences, festivals to bring in the new year

The National Dance Association, an association of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, hosts its conference, 2004 Moving Landscape: Dance Pedagogy for the 21st Century, at the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas, January 16-19. Intended to promote creative exchange between dance educators, the bulk of the conference comprises panel discussions, performances and workshops, with seminars focusing on such topics as the urban middle school, anatomical alignment and infusing dance in the curriculum. Of special interest are performances and classes by Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Rosalie Jones' Native American dance company Daystar and DC-based Adrienne Clancy, founder of ClancyWorks. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Howard Gardner, a professor of cognition and education at the Harvard School of Education. The Texas Dance Council will hold a preconference workshop about dancing with disabilities in conjunction with NDA and the Dallas Dance Educators Association.
