This newly revised edition updates the 1997 work by Jean M. Casey, one of the pioneers in early literacy and computers in speech. Several of the 11 chapters are also authored by two other researchers, Dr. Rachael Cohen and Dr. Gloria Mendrano, international experts in the field of education and literacy.

The author clearly states her purpose: "To help teachers use computers to teach in their classrooms today." The book intends to help create a supportive environment to allow the integration of technology into the curriculum. The revised edition includes new information about up-to-date classroom technologies used today, including how the computer serves as a tool to individualize children's instruction in the classroom.

Among the 11 chapters are discussions of the "new literacy," as well as technology and literacy development through the years, focusing on the early efforts in the '80s up through today's world of online information. …
