Ballet Pacifica Responds

Dance Teacher magazine is a respected publication in our industry and I thank your staff writers for the hard work and dedication you put into making it successful.

I would, however, like to clarify a statement made in the article about Ballet Pacifica in the April issue ("Pacific Storm," Dancewire). The article states that Frank Lynch-father of former Artistic Director Molly Lynch and one of the company's major donors for many years-had pulled his financial support for the company in the summer of 2003. In fact, Mr. Lynch's generous financial contributions continued well past the summer with sizable donations in September and October to support Ballet Pacifica's Fall 2003-2004 season. Additionally, just prior to Molly's resignation in October 2003, Mr. Lynch had drafted a proposal to the company's board of directors offering future support to the company in the form of a matching challenge gift.

Ballet Pacifica is an important professional company in southern California with a long and venerable history. Along with other dedicated individuals, I am working to ensure its future and the future of the Ballet Pacifica Conservatory, its official school. In doing so, it is very important for me to respect the organization's past and safeguard the reputations of the talented and committed people who made it happen. Molly Lynch built a wonderful legacy for our community and Frank Lynch's financial backing was an important part of that.
