Egyptian Detainees to Be Examined

Egyptian state security prosecutors have agreed to let doctors examine a group of Muslim Brotherhood detainees, upon the request of their lawyers, following allegations of torture, AFP reported june 15. "The decision came after 12 detainees from the Brotherhood movement filed a complaint alleging abuse and torture by their state security interrogators," the report stated. The 12 are among a group of 52 Brotherhood suspects rounded up in security sweeps across the country in May and imprisoned on charges of plotting subversive actions against the state.

Tunisia Invited to G-8 Summit by Mistake

U.S. National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice mistakenly invited Tunisia to attend the G-8 Summit meetings held June 8-10 in Sea Island, Georgia, according to her spokesman, Sean McCormick, the June 10 Khaleej Times reported. Tunisia was among the countries that declined the invitation to attend the summit, and also is one of the countries to have so far rejected Washington's plans for political reforms in the Middle East, the Times reported. …
