A new book examines the causes of the Lucasville riot as William Zuern faces lethal injection. Zuern, a Mansfield Correctional Institution inmate, is scheduled to be executed June 8 for the 1984 stabbing death of corrections officer Phillip Pence. The Ohio Parole Board is recommending the governor give no clemency to the convicted killer.

The execution will add one more chapter to the prison's violent past. On Easter Sunday 1993, inmates took control of the facility and held it for 11 days, resulting in what was then the longest j prison riot in American history. Nine inmates and one guard were killed during the standoff.
