Media Execs Contribute Funds to Political Campaigns

Top media organization executives Rupert Murdoch, George R. Hearst and William Block Jr. were found to have given more money to political campaigns and parties after Editor & Publisher Online initially investigated campaign payouts by media owners in January 2004. The second round of donations came after December 2003.

E&P obtained the figures via campaign finance documents filed with the Federal Election Commission. Murdoch, chairman and CEO of the News Corp., first gave $2,000 each to the re-election of the Bush-Cheney ticket, U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and U.S. Rep. Bill Thomas, R-Calif.

In addition to those, Murdoch since had added $5,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee, $2,000 each to the Senate campaigns of New York's Charles Schumer, Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, Jack Ryan of Illinois and California's Bill Jones, E&P reported. …
