Five Teams Win Quality Cup Awards

Imagine this: employees at your company have just reduced labor costs by 24%. They've also recovered $1.6 million in operating funds, improved manufacturing processes by 31% and boosted the quality-acceptance rate of aircraft parts to 99.78%.

These notable successes are one team's results from being involved in a quality-process initiative. The team that achieved these results is the Manufacturinng Mobile Facilities Program group, which is part of the Naval Aviation Depot of North Island in San Diego. The group is one winner of the 1993 Quality Cup in the Government category. Sponsoring the Quality Cup Awards are New York's Rochester Institute of Technology and USA Today. The awards recognize the quality achievements of individual's or teams rather than entire companies, as the Baldrige Award does.

The awards competition, now in its second year, is open to employees of both U.S. and foreign organizations. Employees or teams that are nominated, however, must work in the U.S. to be eligible.
