Every day I hear about outrageous adolescent behavior and, at the same time, I hear stories about our kids that are truly inspiring, says Ron Taffel, Ph.D., the author of a new book ALL parents of teens should read.

The peer group and pop culture together have created what Dr. Taffel calls "the second family," which has more of a pull on adolescents these days than their "first families." He urges parents, indeed all adults, to see who our teenagers really are and what spurs them on in their day-to-day existence, in order to keep the first family from being overshadowed.
