Southern Methodist University Endowment Recipient

Article excerpt

Bridwell Library of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, is the recent recipient of the largest single endowment ever received by a theological library--a gift of $10 million made by the J.S. Bridwell Foundation. The gift establishes the J.S. Bridwell Foundation Endowed Library Fund which will provide a continuing stream of income to further the stature of the library.

"This magnificent new gift is but another instance of the Bridwell Foundation's unswerving commitment to the vision of J.S. Bridwell and his family to make the library among the best in the theological world," said Dr. James E. Kirby, dean of Perkins School of Theology.

The $10 million gift will provide financial support to maintain appropriate staffing for the library; enlarge its collections of periodicals, monographs, rare books, and other library materials, and to undertake programs and services that make these collections available to students, scholars, and the Church.

It will enable the library to increase general and special collections and broaden the outreach of the library through a variety of new programs. The gift will support grants for visiting researchers and ministers, lecture series, workshops, and seminars. …
